Fin House,

Donnybrook

Fin House is a contemporary new-build family home on a backland brownfield site in Donnybrook, designed around two calm, light-filled courtyards. A garden courtyard sits at entry level, while a second internal courtyard extends into the basement to draw daylight into the heart of the plan. Handmade brick encloses this lower courtyard, introducing a soft natural warmth that carries through the interiors.

Timber fins define the architectural character of the house — giving it its name. They offer privacy along the laneway, introduce texture and vertical rhythm, and work as a subtle brise-soleil to control sunlight. Together, these elements soften the façade and create a sense of quiet enclosure.

Across the home, natural materials, layered textures and controlled light shape restful, connected spaces. The result is a considered courtyard house with bright, flowing interiors tailored for family living.
